Yoda and The Mets.

Today, per ESPN, it is Star Wars sports day. They asked who is your sports Yoda, ok not on topic but I think its Phil Jackson.. He is very Yodaish in his way. But then I started to think, maybe the Mets problem is that Jerry is not sending them down the right path. Perhaps they need to have Yoda intervene, and I bet it would go something like this:

Mets: We can't hit the ball lately, Yoda! Whatever we are doing is not working.

Yoda: Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.”

Mets: But Yoda! We are trying!

Yoda: “Do or do not... there is no try.”

Mets: You really don't see it do you? We are trying but we are suffering! We can't hit the ball,we are barely holding on with our pitching, what do you suggest?

Yoda: Remember, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware. Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Mets .. Mets. do not... do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor or suffer your father's fate you will. Mets, when gone am I... the last of the Jedi will you be. Mets, the Force runs strong in your family. Pass on what you have learned, Mets.

Mets: Sometimes it might be easier if we were just all Yankees! Have you seen these Mets fans when mad they are scary!

Yoda: Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Mets: Yes, Yoda but what does it all mean? What are you trying to tell us?

Yoda: Feel the force!
Mets: Yoda, you are one smart old little dude but you have to tell me what do we do? How do we fix it? We have people who are depending on us!

Yoda: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.

Mets: Ok, Yoda, I think I got it.. You are saying be one with the ball, hit the ball, pitch the ball and we will succed right? I can't believe it

Yoda: That is why you fail

Mets: But Yoda.. dude. Come on, fail? that's harsh.. give me some wisdom?

Yoda: Named must your fear be before banish it you can.

Mets: So if we admit we are afraid of pissing off the people of NY, then what.. we will still fail?

Yoda: Not if anything to say about it I have

Mets: Will we ever get it right?

Yoda: The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future is.

Mets: There you go with the Darkside.. you know we are the Mets right? Not the Yankees!

Yoda: Powerful you have become, the dark side I sense in you

Mets: Wait. I am gonna be traded? What do I do? how do I fix it?

Yoda: Feel the force!

Mets: ok Yoda you win. I will trust the force. Thanks for the chat.

Yoda: May the force be with you.

See, that's all it would take.. now who wants to be Yoda :o)~

A line in the sand...at home.

**At this blog, we prefer not to mention last night. We merely look at it as a severe bump in the road and hope and pray we can recover from.. and starting tonight would be nice.. just sayin'**

My husband is a Reds Fan, I am a Mets fan (bet you couldn't figure that one out huh?). Tonight at 7:05 PM, the first pitch in this year's matchup/trashtalking/mudslinging/finger pointing/middle finger flying begins. Yes, we are talking about a major deal..... in this house. The proverbial line has been drawn in the sand. All the Mets fans to the Left and well, Chuck to the right.

Tonights Match up is (well, I am not 100% optimistic but don't tell my husband I said that)

Next Game: Mon, 5/3
TV: SNY
Radio: WFAN 660, WQBU 92.7
@Great American Ball Park
7:10 PM EDT
14-11
12-13
Probable Pitchers

Perez, Oliver
(0-2, 4.35)

Leake, Mike
(2-0, 3.25) Tickets »

The numbers let's be real are not that impressive, but Ollie's last start he looked impressive and perhaps that 0-2 record really does not define him.. obviously during our 8 game winning streak he pitched and we won, my ambitions are high and if we lose this series I have to listen to Chuck.. which is not cool.. NOT cool at all

So tonight, we embark on a match of not so epic proportions--bring on the Reds.. and may my marriage survive. :o)~

All Good things must come to an end..blah.

But WHY did it have to against the Phillies? Ugh. That's similiar to the Redskins losing to the Cowboys (don't hate. .I am a Redskins fan.. don't hate) Anyways... So the first game felt like this:

The second game felt more like this:
The thing is, while we can say that Jonathan Neise pitched great (he did), we can also say the boys brought their bats along to play. The problem is in game two, Mike Pelfrey fell apart (Love ya Mike but we were all kind of waiting for it) and the bats were as missing in action as my child support this month (HA! ok that was a personal dig at my ex..my apologies).
We can sit here and pick it apart or we can brush ourselves off and start all over again. Roy Halladay is an amazing pitcher, the chances of us beating him yesterday were slim at best. Mike Pelfrey going to the mound against him well it was like sending a 120 lb boxer in to face a 300 lb sumo wrestler. The fact is, yes we have some bumps and bruises but let's hope the guys are gonna get back in the saddle again and tonight will be different.

Yikes.. we play on ESPN.. that never goes well.. ugh. Ok. time to breathe.. we can do this right? Deep cleansing breaths.. Monday through Wednesday will be rough games in this house.. we play the Reds. That normally leads to one of us writing up seperation papers and the other using the phrase GET out. Yea.. gonna be an interesting week..

Until next time!

Met'a Culpa...Met'a Culpa.. Met'a Maxima Culpa.

Ok so I had little faith in the ability of one John Maine, and I was wrong. When I am wrong I admit I am wrong, unless it is with my husband.. in that case I am merely the opposite of right. Today the Mets played a good game, it was not the prettiest game of the last 7 they have won (cough in a row). but it was a good game.

There were some really heads up plays in the field and others that were not so heads up. Their bats are getting better, they are not swinging for the 415 side, instead they are swinging to get hits. David Wright, seems to be getting his feet and bat back in the game. Ike Davis well, we have already discussed my love for him:

The thing is I am still anxious, we start a rough series with the Phillies this weekend, but its ok because as of right now I am in:
The Little engine that could mode.. I am telling you. I am believing.. but I have for awhile.. and well I am nervous. But it sure would be nice to take that series to huh?

A streak, Good news, Bad news, and first place

Watching the games last night was similar to watching a baby take their first steps. While we are now 3 weeks into this season, we are still new at this season. So with each crack of the bat We knew that there was something to be said, with each play that was made we knew that the likelyhood of the Mets gaining a sixth win and doing something they had not done since 1971 (Beating the Dodgers two games in a row) was well, possible.

The Mets are currently on a six game win streak (not like the streak above but hey it works), the odds of a streak like this from a team who had already had the door on their season not just slammed but also padlocked shut the season. We were written off as being "the Miserable Mets" we had things said about us that the Orioles (who beat the Yankees last night!) did not have said about them. Why? because we are a team people expect great things from. Is it because of the talent? Partly. But it is also the amount of money that is spent on this team. The logic is how can a team that has funds be not so great? Simple the same way anyone can. If you don't put your heart and soul into a game and play it because its fun then you can't get the prize. Lately, we look like we are having fun!

The Good news is we are on a streak, and that is awesome. The Bad news is, all good things have to come to an end, and we have John Maine pitching today. Ugh. The two pitchers in our line up who are so hot/cold and drive me nuts are John Maine and Oliver Perez. They are both talented and amazing when they need to be but then there are days when they are so wild you think you are watching little league. If we could control our pitching, starting and bull pen. We could be amazing!

David Wright went 3-3 last night, Jason Bay got his first homerun as a Met, and Ike Davis impressed me further. All of these are good things, all of these are part of the reason I woke up to this beautiful site this morning:

TEAM W L % GB
NY Mets 12 9 .571 -
Philadelphia 11 9 .550 0.5
Florida 11 10 .524 1.0
Washington 11 10 .524 1.0
Atlanta 8 12 .400 3.5

Streaks: W6
Last 10: 8-2
Home: 10-5
Road: 2-4

How sweet it is! Way to go boys... let's keep it going and LET'S GO METS!

The Mets

Growing up, I was taught one thing about baseball and I learned it quick. We follow the Mets. The Mets are the only team for us. If there are any questions please see point 1 and point 2. I will admit that as times get tough, I get mad and I do curse them. Very often last season it was not uncommon to hear me scream at the TV about yet another bonehead play. Yet, come February, my body tingles with excitement. I know the day is coming close, I know that any day My boys of summer will be back on the diamond. Every thought about last year leaves, and well it is a whole new ball game. (Metaphorically and literally)

This year, we have so much to prove as a team. David Wright had a decent year in the field but a rough year with the bat. After last nights game, I am seeing the same can be said again. I am hoping that whatever it is that ails that poor guy he can recover from. We made a few changes, some that I agree with and others, er um not so much. I do know that I have questioned what Jerry Manuel is thinking putting Jose Reyes in the 3rd spot in the batting order. I think he will do fine but I really like the speed of him in the lead off position.

I like that Citi field lowered the fences some but to me it seems like a lot of the problems they mentioned previously are still problems.

Now with the complaints, come the good. We have taken the last two series. One of them on a sweep of the Braves. There are a few teams that taking the series and sweeping means more then others. In no particular order: The Yankees, The Phillies, The Braves, and in our house The Reds. (Ya all, I married a Reds fan.. but I swear that is his only major flaw!)

So, now as we reach to the start of the next series, we head to play the LA Dodgers and of course we are reminded:

There's no crying in baseball.... even if you are the Braves and just got swept by the Mets :oP

Sports, kids, and fitting them together

Since I was a young girl, I have been constantly enthralled by sports. I seriously can't help myself, I am a New York Mets fan. If you cut me there is a good chance you will find orange and royal blue blood.

So, where am I to be such a huge fan? New York? New Jersey? Nope. not even close. I am a New Yorker but an Army brat and a Navy Wife (pay attention ok?) In Hampton Roads, VA home of David Wright, The Upton Brothers, Ryan Zimmerman, and many more. I am a New York Mets fan and I am a Redskins fan (yea i know. I can't explain it either).

I eat sleep and breathe baseball, in our house we have two seasons.. Baseball and Winter. So now as we set out, you know who I am, shut up or put up.. let's watch some ball!

Warning: The opinions in this blog are mine and mine alone, if you are a Yankees fan or God Forbid a Dallas fan and have something nasty to say I will stick a pin in the vodoo doll of your player. TRY ME. I am a Mom and I mean business.
